Project Reveal: Mudroom

The mudroom is probably one of the hardest working rooms in your house.

It must simultaneously organize your shoes, coats, backpacks, purses, keys, hats & mitts in a way that gets you in and out of the house quickly, efficiently and stress-free.

The mudroom is one of our favourite rooms to design because it dramatically enhances the function of the client's home. There is always a significant transformation from the before (a cluttered, messy and non-functioning room) to the completed design (an organized, functional and hardworking mudroom).

We had the pleasure of designing this mudroom built in for a new construction home in St. Mary's, ON.

This mudroom is actually less of a room and more of an extra wide hallway off the garage leading into the main living space - with just enough square footage for a custom built in!

This built in features a bench seat with shoe shelves below, five cubbies, a bank of three drawers and a dry erase board.

The bench seat provides a place to sit as well as a landing pad for bringing groceries or other shopping bags into the house.

The shoe shelves deliver plenty of shoe storage. We left the far left space under the bench at full height for boots.

The five cubbies are the perfect place for storing items such as hats, mitts and pet supplies.

The bench seat, countertop and dry erase board frame are stained wormy maple and the remaining pieces are Benjamin Moore Cloud White.

A mudroom just isn't complete without plenty of coat hooks for coats, backpacks and hats.

The bank of three drawers provides closed storage and a dry erase board is the perfect place for leaving a quick note.

We prefer to use wood dovetail jointed drawer boxes for their structural integrity. Using full extension soft close drawer slides provides full drawer accessibly and longevity.
