Project Reveal: Laundry Bathroom Renovation

Today's project reveal is a newly renovated main floor laundry/bathroom.

This space presented some unique challenges to work with:

1. No windows (no natural light)

2. A sloped ceiling

3. Existing in-floor heat

4. Existing tile floor

5. Existing toilet location

The wish list for the new space included:

1. Linen tower

2. More cabinet storage space

3. Large shower

4. Countertop over washer & dryer

I came up with a few different layouts and the homeowner ultimately decided on this one:

We removed the existing "laundry closet" and put the shower in that corner. The shower has a knee wall on the left side that the vanity butts into. The toilet remained in its existing location and a new vanity fits between the shower and toilet.

We moved the washer & dryer to the opposite wall, incorporating a large countertop above, upper cabinets and a linen tower.

We selected "White Sand" cultured marble for the shower base & walls complete with a custom glass door.

We needed a quartz countertop that would co-ordinate well with the existing floor tile. Being that this is a century home, we were also working with large scaled, warm stained baseboard & casing. Luckily, we found the perfect countertop in "Smoke" by Hanstone.

Pulling from the countertop, we selected Benjamin Moore HC-169 "Coventry Gray" for the cabinetry colour and Sico #6214-31 "Fine Faience" for the walls.

The cabinetry was custom designed to fulfill all the needs in the space.

The vanity features a centered sink with a bank of three drawers on either side.

On the right side of the vanity, the lower two drawers are mounted together and hinged to act as a door.

Above the washer & dryer, I designed the upper cabinets with top hinge doors.

The top hinge hardware allows the cabinet door to open awning style, locking in an open position. This hardware also features soft close.

These cabinets are fairly short in height so that they could butt into the edge of the sloped ceiling. A flat trim piece above creates a large open shelf for extra storage.

The linen tower includes four roll out trays behind the double doors and the large bottom drawer is a hamper pull out.

The shower is 48" x 33" with a built in bench and soap shelf.

Having a half wall of glass gives the room a larger and brighter feel!

We decided on classic chrome fixtures and accents to complete the space.
